One of the most passionate debates you’ll ever witness (that isn’t over politics or religion) is about barbecue! That’s no different here in Gaston County, NC. With numerous options countywide and new spots opening there is no shortage of choices.
Our resident foodie extraordinaire J. Scott Wilson (also from the Mondo & Lodi food blog) sums it up well:
Of course, pork ‘cue is king, served in every place with a trace of woodsmoke circling around the back door, but you can also find Texas-worthy brisket, outstanding ribs and various birds that have spent quality time in a smoker. You might get the luxury of sitting at a table to eat, or you might take it back to your car and devour it there. The strong-willed will take it home, but not without sneaking a hush puppy or two out of the bag.
There’s a lot of history in some of the places. People remember their parents and grandparents eating at RO’s Barbecue, and our love for our chosen ‘cue joints is akin to the allegiance given to fish camps. If you’re going to malign someone’s favorite barbecue place, be prepared for a “discussion” that will likely get very loud and strident.
From Bridges in Shelby to Peace ‘N Hominy in Belmont, this area is rife with great barbecue, and here on Gaston Eats we aim to give you all the info you’ll need to make smart dining choices!”
